A Part of The Chaos - “Vampires” by Handsome Ghost
Handsome Ghost is a folk music duo from Massachusetts who have amassed tens of millions of streams on Spotify and have played sold out shows across the country. Their deeply personal music captures the raw feelings of youth, love, and growing up in an unpredictable world. Compass + Sea worked closely with Handsome Ghost to capture the emotional nuances of their music.
This featured music video is for their song Vampires which is from their sophomore album, Some Still Morning released by Photo Finish Records. The video premiered on NPR's Philadelphia affiliated station, WXPN, calling it, “haunting and romantic.”
Handsome Ghost describes Vampires as a song about showing, "it's important not to lose who you were as you grow into who you are now. It’s okay to hold on to the wild moments, the craziness. The song is trying to harness just a little bit of youth–– just for a moment.” Compass + Sea channeled this idea when thoughtfully composing this visual representation of their music.
Close-up with Cat Graffam
13FOREST Gallery located in Arlington, Massachusetts, searches New England for outstanding artists to offer the very best in original artwork. They feature rotating exhibitions every 6 to 8 weeks, as well as a number of public programs designed to inform and inspire creative minds. Like many businesses 13FOREST has had to limit the amount of people that can visit their gallery due to health and safety concerns during the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the many ways 13FOREST enjoys connecting with people is through artist talks where people can learn about artists through video.
To accomplish this in a safe way Compass + Sea filmed a short documentary with Catherine Graffam, a featured artist of 13FOREST art gallery. This documentary gives the viewer a look inside the artist's studio so that they can get a first hand look at the artist's process. For most of Catherine's career her primary subject as been herself using self-portraiture as an avenue for visualizing the trauma she experienced as a queer kid in rural Maine. With Closer, she presents her first body of work focused primarily on portraits of other people with intimate depictions of friends and loved ones. The film gives an honest and intimate look into Catherine's art and the motivation behind her work in her show Closer, expanding what is possible to learn from an artist talk. The film also features an original musical score by Eddie Byun.
MAT Begins with Immediate Clinical Intake
Compass + Sea worked in collaboration with the Bureau of Justice Assistance and Advocates for Human Potential to film an informative documentary with the Philadelphia Department of Prisons.
For 30 years, Advocates for Human Potential has influenced change in health and business systems to support vulnerable populations—from creating policy all the way to ground level, hands-on work.
We go behind the walls of the prison to show an in depth look at their intake process. We show the role it plays in addressing the opioid epidemic from the moment a client enters the Prison, Interviews with doctors, correctional officers, and clients giving the viewer a first hand perspective on the process and its benefits. It is estimated that over 453,300 Americans have died from opioids which the U.S. Surgeon General dubbed "The Opioid Crisis." Recovery from opioid addiction often starts after an arrest and this documentary provides information on how treatment can begin in prison.
The documentary is in part a training film for other Departments of Correction to learn about what the Philadelphia Department of Corrections is doing to incorporate this plan into their own jails and prisons.
